Evan (aka Country Bumpkin)
Hi my name is Evan, I'm a Pit Bull mix. I'm looking for a Forever Home or for someone who can Foster me. As you can see I am a handsome young man distinguished by my left ear, it sticks straight up every time I see something interesting! Right now I'm going through my teenage stage. I need a family that wants only one dog as I do not do well with other dogs in the home. And this way I get all the love and attention to myself! Overall, I hear I'm a typical loving pup plus the great trait! … being my left ear. Would you like to be that family for me? I would be very loyal and love you with all my heart.
I love playing fetch with the ball, tug and chase. I'm learning to drop or release my toys when asked.
I like to bring my toy snake or rope with me on my walks. I carry my toy in my mouth, it's so much fun! If I drop it my handler puts it in her pocket and I will grab it while we are walking; people say I'm cute when they see me do that
I really enjoy being with people and children. I've lived with kids that are 9 months, 2 years, 5 years and 11 years old. My previous Foster Mom used to praise me because I was such a good boy with the baby.
Other types of animals I've met include cats and when I interact with them I tend to leave them alone.
In case youre wondering, I do ask to go out when I gotta go., I do very well in a crate.
I'm house trained and love rides in the car. I know some basic commands such as Sit, Sit-Focus, Down, Off and Lay (I like to roll over when asked to lie). I sit at the corner when ready to cross the street and look-up to my handler for a treat, oh how I love those treats! I know loose-leash walking and I sit when putting my leash on. I'm crate trained and will sit when I'm asked to while the door is being opened. I shake hands and prance when I go for my walks; this is when my handler knows I want a treat :) Sometimes I like to run on my walks but when the sun's too bright I get really hot so at that point my walk should stay short. Otherwise I will find a shaded area to lie down and rest until I cool down. My handler calls me her “Country Bumpkin,” she usually coaches me to continue our walk with treats. Currently I'm learning “Come, Leave it and Let's Go”. I know these commands as I hear them when my handler calls me. I try to listen but som! etimes my interest is somewhere else, humans call it selective hearing. Trust me, I'm working on it!
My handler knows me pretty well and she thinks the perfect family for me would be one that would only have one dog in the house and that would be me! I prefer people; I love to be with humans.
Geez - I almost forgot to tell you that I do have allergies but they are manageable. I take Benadryl only from Spring to the end of Summer.
If you're not sure that I'd be a fit in your home, come and meet me just to say hello; I love meeting new friends! And maybe you can take me for a walk :)
Thanks for reading about me!

Note about puppies: Many people want to adopt pit bull puppies because they feel that, by adopting them younger, there is less chance that they will be aggressive as they get older. While human aggression is not a predisposed standard trait of this breed, a very real likelihood of maturing into canine aggression does exist. Good socialization will certainly help with the aggression that any unsocialized breed might have as they get older. This aggression can be bourne from the fear of the unknown and socialization early and often is the best solution to this. Unfortunately, there is also a component of some pit bulls that is a genetic canine aggression (aggression towards other dogs). This cannot be socialized out and generally does not manifest itself until they reach maturity, which can be anywhere from 6 months to 2 years of age. If you are adopting a puppy to include into a multi-dog family, be aware that, through no fault of his own, this puppy can mature into a dog that might be unpredictable with the other dogs in your family and out in the world. This is not a certainty by any means but something that a responsible pit bull owner should know and be aware of.
Please note that Pit Bull Rescue San Diego does not adopt on a first come first served basis. Generally we have formed an opinion about the sort of home that we want for each of the dogs in our program. This opinion is formed from knowing each dog and observing their interactions in various situations and through periodic evaluations. Our goal is to place our charges in the home that is the best possible for that particular dog. Our only goal is happiness and forever homes for our dogs. A forever home is most likely to happen when we do the best we can to find lifestyles and personalities that match.
We are aware that this is a human process and that you may or may not agree with our decisions. Please understand that we take very seriously the lives placed in our hands for this brief time and our decisions are only made out of protectiveness for the breed and the specific dogs we are placing and not out of any judgment of you or your life.
