Nakita (aka nakita bird, or beautiful lil ole lady)

When I'm with my human family I enjoy taking naps, watching TV, playing with my toys, and going on my daily walks. Don't let my age fool you - I'm an active and healthy girl! I am excited to go on a hike or visit the park, but I am equally happy to relax at home. Really, I just love to be around you... because I am very people-friendly!

I make my family laugh when I am snoozing. When it is time for bed, my foster parents cover me with a nice, warm, fuzzy blanket. I snuggle right in and I don't budge until morning! I just LOVE my blankets, and I guess you could say sleeping is my specialty!

I do not live with any kids right now, but I've met kids as young as age 6. Children do not interest me much. I am always friendly to anybody who wants to pet me, but if they don't want to play, I just ignore them. My foster parents think I could do well living with children, because I have learned not to lick or jump on people. Therefore, kids are not intimidated by me. I am also a very tolerant dog, and I will put up with just about anything! If I am adopted by a family with children, they should understand that BECAUSE I am so tolerant, kids must be careful not to injure or pester me. While I love attention from my family, I also like to have quiet time to nap on my doggy bed during the day.

People tell me that I'm more adoptable if I know things. Here are the commands that I've already learned: "sit," "stay," "come," "lay down," "shake," "high-five," "touch" (nose to target), "move," (get out of the way/leave the room), "release" (drop whatever is in my mouth), "leave it," (do not touch), and "Get your ball!".

When it is time to eat, I sit and wait until my foster parents give me the "OK!". When it is time to go outside, I sit and wait patiently for my foster parents to put my leash on. They really love that one, because whenever I see my leash I respond all on my own! Everyone says it shows what a fast learner I am!

Intake Notes:
This beautiful lady came to us from a local shelter where her owners decided they no longer wanted her. We can't imagine why, because she is a big lovebug who, at about 9 years of age, has all of the spunk and playfulness of the younger crowd. She is a boxer/pit mix and has many of the goofy, funloving qualities of both breeds. Nakita enjoys going for walks, crusing shotgun in the car with you, playing with other dogs, chewing on her favorite toys, and just being lazy around the house. She's best in a home where she'll get regular exercise, maybe a dog buddy to keep her company, and probably best in a family with older, dog-smart kids.

Like we said, don't let this lovely girl's age fool you, she's active and funloving, and can't wait to meet her new forever family. After all she's been through, she so deserves a second chance at being loved for the great dog that she is. Come meet her at our next adoption event, or submit an online application today!

Adopting me will be a lifelong commitment, and my new family needs to be ready, willing and able to provide me not only with lots of love as an indoor member of the family, but also with ongoing training and socialization.

Please note that Pit Bull Rescue San Diego does not adopt on a first come first served basis. Generally we have formed an opinion about the sort of home that we want for each of the dogs in our program. This opinion is formed from knowing each dog and observing their interactions in various situations and through periodic evaluations. Our goal is to place our charges in the home that is the best possible for that particular dog. Our only goal is happiness and forever homes for our dogs. A forever home is most likely to happen when we do the best we can to find lifestyles and personalities that match.

We are aware that this is a human process and that you may or may not agree with our decisions. Please understand that we take very seriously the lives placed in our hands for this brief time and our decisions are only made out of protectiveness for the breed and the specific dogs we are placing and not out of any judgment of you or your life.
